Discovery School

Discovery School Vision

Discovery school students will gain knowledge and experiences needed to sustain and improve the social, cultural and ecological integrity of our community. Our students will experience challenging curriculum that complements and expands classroom instruction. Our students will be prepared for any post-high school education, technical program or career training of their choice.  Discovery school students strive to make a difference in our society and environment by engaging with and exploring the region in which we live. It is our hope that Discovery school students gain a true understanding of what our community can provide for them as well as what our students can give back to our community by being active participants in a democratic society.

Discovery school provides:

  • Learning that extends beyond the classroom into the community.
  • Curriculum that is accessible, challenging and equitable to all students with regard to race, ethnicity, economic background and learning styles.
  • Critical thinking about current social, economic, and environmental issues, integrated into the curriculum that meets or exceeds state standards.
  • Opportunities for students to experience and appreciate the natural world in order to enhance their physical and mental well-being.
  • Community involvement, social awareness and college readiness.
  • A deep understanding of self and community through classroom instruction and field experiences.
  • A fun and active learning environment with challenging and relevant classes taught by passionate and dedicated teachers.
  • A plan for success after graduation.

You Should Join Discovery if…

  • You are an independent thinker and a problem solver.
  • You like learning by discovering and exploring.
  • You have a passion to participate in activities that will help our community be a great place.
  • You want to be proactive in sustaining and improving our environment.

We don’t just study our world: we EXPERIENCE it!
