Liberal Benefits​​

Salaries - Salaries, economic benefits and grievance procedures are negotiated yearly between the Board of Directors and the Medford Education Association. Salaries are based upon an education and experience-based schedule. Many teachers receive supplemental pay for extra-compensatory assignments.

Fringe Package - Teachers receive generous benefits at District expense, including long term disability, hospital/medical/dental/vision care insurance, tuition reimbursement, sick leave, sabbatical leave, personal leave, and bereavement leave.

Retirement - District employees come under plan provisions of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security benefits, should provide the same standard of living during retirement as immediately before retirement.

Payroll Deductions - Teachers in District 549C have the privilege of payroll deductions for convenient deposit of funds in accounts, such as tax sheltered annuities and public employees' credit unions.

Oregon Certification

Each person employed in an Oregon public school as a teacher, personnel specialist or administrator must hold a current certificate issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards & Practices Commission. An educator must hold such a certificate before employment begins. Oregon laws cannot grant reciprocity to persons prepared or certified by other states. Certification can be granted only to those meeting Oregon requirements, except in emergency situations. Teaching Application Process

Applications will not be placed into active consideration for openings until the following items are received in the Human Resources office:


  • District application form
  • Cover letter outlining qualifications for position
  • 500-word writing sample indicating your views on
    • Effective Instruction or Classroom Management
  • Copy of Oregon Teaching Certificate (upon hire)
  • Three letters of reference
  • College transcripts (upon hire)
  • Resume

Following receipt of these items, applications will be paper screened for the area of certification indicated and placed in an active status for openings occurring during the current academic year. Interviews will be by invitation only after the screening process has been completed. Should you wish your file to remain active in subsequent years, please notify the Human Resources office after the first of January.
