What Is Title I-A?
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, and represents good news for our nation’s schools. This bipartisan measure reauthorizes the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students. Under this legislation, Congress authorized federal funding for Title I-A schools. Title I-A will focus its efforts on helping these students meet the same high standards expected of all children. This will be accomplished through enrichment and acceleration, not remediation.
Federal law requires all school districts receiving Title I-A funding to establish a procedure for parent involvement at Title I-A schools. A copy of the Medford School Board Policy I.GBC-AR Title I-A/Parental and Family Procedures English Spanish is available in all school offices, on the district website www.medford.k12.or.us and in all Title I-A rooms.
