About the Superintendent

  • Dr. Bret Champion became the superintendent of the Medford School District in 2019. Before his arrival in Medford, Bret was Superintendent of Schools for Klein ISD in Klein, Texas, and for Leander ISD outside of Austin, Texas.  

    Earlier in his career, Bret was a member of the second corps of Teach for America, teaching elementary school in Houston ISD and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Texas, a Master’s in Education from Texas State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Houston. He loves to learn, read, run and cook!  He believes the best decisions are made collaboratively and works to ensure student success and equity for all are always the lenses through which decisions are evaluated.

    Bret and his wife Marcee, who works in the non-profit and community college areas, have two sons, Alan and Nico.  Both are proud public school graduates. Alan is a computer programmer, and Nico is student teaching and working on his master's degree in education.
