If you plan to play sports in college, you must become a "qualifier" through the NCAA Eligibility Center. College-bound student athletes have to meet certain requirements in order to participate, and there have been recent rule changes which will impact current high school students.
Those who wish to participate in Division I sports at a university must have a 2.3 cumulative GPA or higher and complete sixteen required core classes. Ten of these sixteen must be completed before the beginning of senior year, and must include no less than seven English, math or science classes. Changes have been made to the Division II requirements as well, including an increase to sixteen required core classes, on additional course in English, math or science, and one additional course in any core academic subject.
See the NCAA guide online at www.eligibilitycenter.org to see if you are eligible to register as a qualifier for college athletics and to learn more about the requirements.
If you are planning to play sports in college at any level, be sure to register at the following site: www.corecoursegpa.com
