Superintendent Search Process
On Thursday, February 28th the Medford School Board acknowledged Dr. Brian Shumate’s resignation letter. Dr. Shumate’s last day as superintendent is June 30th 2019.
The search is underway for a new superintendent.
Here’s our timeline:
March 7th - Staff and Community Meetings (scheduled throughout the day)
March 7th at 7 p.m. - Public Forum
March 5th - 12th - Online Input Survey (survey now closed)

April 25 - 26th Finalist Interviews
May - Finalist Announced
As we begin this exciting search, the district wants to know what is important to you. We want to know what leadership qualities, expertise, and experiences matter most to you in a superintendent.
On Thursday, March 7th at 7 p.m., the public is invited to a public forum in the boardroom at the Medford School District office.
Choosing a new superintendent is one of the most important decisions a school board can make. Our board members are committed to finding the right person for the job.
Here’s the process they’ve followed so far:
Our school board has selected a search consultant. The consultant is conducting a nationwide search for candidates. The consultant will assist in helping with the screening and interview process.
The next step is to develop an ‘ideal’ candidate profile. To do this, the board is seeking public input during a public forum on March 7th at 7 p.m. It will be in the Medford School District office boardroom.

With information about what is important to Medford School District families from the public forum and online survey, the board will identify an ‘Ideal Candidate Profile.’
This profile will be used in the screening and interviewing process.
Community Stakeholder Committee - Application can be found here: Application closed.
Applications to be included on the confidential Community Stakeholder Committee will be received through noon on April 10, 2019. The board will select a panel consisting of employees, community and business members, parents and students. Stakeholder panelists selected will spend approximately one hour with each finalist, engaging in a scripted interview. Interview questions will be constructed in advance, but panelists will have the opportunity to offer suggestions for those questions.
Following the interview, the panelists will engage with the consultants in a protocol that elicits feedback and allows them to engage with each other. The feedback will then, later in the day, be provided to the Board prior to their interview with the finalist. The Board members will make use of the Stakeholder’s feedback as they craft questions for, and assess, each finalist. The stakeholder panelists are not being asked to make a recommendation – rather, to engage with the finalist and each other and offer feedback to the Board.
