• Greetings Jacksonville Students and Families,

    My name is Shawna Smith and it is with great joy that I am joining the Jacksonville Pioneers this year as the new Assistant Principal. I am delighted to join a dedicated and passionate team of people whose mission is to provide not only high quality academic learning opportunities for our students, but to inspire them to become lifelong learners!

     

    I have over 20 years of experience as an educator, working with students from birth through sixth grade. I have taught preschool, third grade, first grade, and worked most recently as a Social Emotional Advocate. 

     

    After living the majority of my life in sunny Arizona, my family and I moved to Southern Oregon several years ago because it is a beautiful place to put down roots and raise our family. My husband and I have three children who keep us busy with their various activities. When I do have free time, I love reading, being in nature, and spending time with the people I love.

     

    I have always found quotes to be a tremendous source of inspiration in both times of strife and renewal. One well-known quote that has served as a mantra for me throughout my time as an educator is Gandhi’s, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” I truly value kindness, service, and respect for ALL people, animals, and our planet. One of my goals as an educator is to help each child reach his or her full potential, not only as a student, but as a human being. Equally important is my belief that all students deserve access to a high-quality, challenging curriculum that purposefully cultivates critical thinking skills, and includes a multi-tiered support system to ensure students’ success at all levels.
