    Update June 2022

    Greetings, Medford School District Families!

We are pleased to announce the Medford School District Board of Directors have adopted new attendance zones to take effect the 2023-24 school year when our third comprehensive middle school opens, Oakdale Middle School. Ruch Outdoor Community School and Medford Online Academy will continue to hold sixth grade, but all other sixth grade classes will be moved to Hedrick, Mcloughlin, and Oakdale. To view the new attendance zones, visit our website, here.

As your comprehensive middle school principals, we are thrilled to work together next school year to make all three middle schools the best they can be. In the Medford School District, we put students first and believe in hands-on, minds-on, anytime, anywhere learning. We want learning to be fun, engaging, and challenging for every student. We look forward to providing (and continuing to provide) excellent learning opportunities that include academics, arts, career and technical, as well as athletics and other extracurriculars.

Middle school is such an important time in students' lives, and we want it to be impactful and memorable!

We look forward to engaging you in the process of redeveloping the middle school experience so that ALL are learning and learning is for ALL.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out (emails linked below).

    Update February 2022

Greetings, Medford School District (MSD) Community!

We are excited to announce the selection of principal for our newest middle school, Oakdale Middle School! Karina Chavez Rizo will be joining us from the Eagle Point School District where she has a wealth of educational experience as the current principal of White Mountain Middle School. Ms. Rizo has nine years principal experience at White Mountain and prior to that was a teacher here in the MSD at Jackson Elementary.

As you know, Oakdale Middle School will open in August 2023. Hiring Ms. Rizo to begin with MSD this summer allows her time to provide feedback on facility development, begin staff recruitment, and connect with future families.

She truly embodies our leadership definition by fiercely dedicating herself to learning for all, and believing that connections among students, employees, families, and community will lead to a more hopeful future. Ms. Rizo has a strong background in helping students succeed and connecting students and families to the school experience. She is bilingual and resides with her husband and three children (who attend MSD schools!) here in Medford.

We are excited for Ms. Rizo to rejoin the MSD family and look forward to introducing you to her soon.

    Gratefully,

    Bret Champion

    Superintendent

P.S. Our Attendance Zoning Committee is currently working on proposed boundary adjustments and you will have an opportunity to weigh in before the Medford School Board makes a decision in May or June. For more on attendance zoning and Oakdale Middle School Construction, click here.

    Update November 2021

Work on Medford School District’s soon-to-be third middle school is progressing well at 815 S. Oakdale Avenue! To honor the historic South Oakdale neighborhood, the Medford School Board is considering re-naming the school Oakdale Middle School. (It’s currently named Central Medford High School because that is the last school to occupy the building). The Board plans to vote on the proposed name of Oakdale Middle School at its next meeting on November 18.

Note: There is only school board policy to name a new facility. Because Oakdale is not a new facility, there is no policy governing the renaming process. The board is having conversations about potential changes to name/renaming governance.

    Update July 2021

Medford’s third middle school is coming fall 2023!

815 S. Oakdale Avenue has had many names: Medford High School (1931-1967), Medford Mid High School (1967-1986), South Medford High School (1986-2010), Central Medford High School (2012-2020) and the Medford School District Administrative Offices (2013-2021).

The new middle school will open in the fall of 2023, the 92 year anniversary of the building’s existence. The project will be funded without any additional taxes to our community, thanks to careful money management and the blending of local, state, and federal funds.

Based on feedback from our community, when the middle school opens in August 2023, all MSD sixth graders will attend middle schools. This will free up much needed space at MSD’s 14 elementary schools, and delay the need for a future bond for several years!

A committee will reconvene to discuss changes to attendance zones.

The project is currently in the second phase of construction. Phase two is the early work involving the roof, demo and abatement.

We will continue to update this article with the progress of construction and pictures. Be sure to check back again soon!
