About the Superintendent

Dr. Bret Champion became the superintendent of the Medford School District in 2019. Before his arrival in Medford, Bret was superintendent in Klein ISD in Klein, Texas, and in Leander ISD outside of Austin, Texas. He’s proud to have been part of the Medford School District’s creation of its shared vision, that ALL are learning and learning is for ALL.

Earlier in his career, Bret was a member of the second corps of Teach for America, teaching elementary school in Houston ISD and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Texas, a Master’s in Education from Texas State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Houston. He loves to learn, read, run, and cook! He believes the best decisions are made collaboratively and works to ensure student success and equity for all are always the lenses through which decisions are evaluated.

Bret and his wife Marcee, who works as the food programs director for ACCESS, have two sons, Alan and Nico. Both are public school graduates. Alan is a computer programmer, and Nico is a proud public school teacher.
