About the Superintendent

 

Dr. Bret Champion became the superintendent of the Medford School District in 2019. Before his arrival in Medford, Bret was superintendent for Klein ISD outside of Houston, Texas, and for Leander ISD outside of Austin.  

Earlier in his career, Bret was a member of the second corps of Teach for America, teaching elementary school in Houston ISD and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Texas, a Master’s in Education from Texas State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Houston. He loves to learn, read, run, and cook (including making kombucha)!  

Bret and his wife Marcee, who works as the food programs director at ACCESS, Jackson County’s food bank, have been married for over 30 years.  They have two sons, Alan and Nico.  Both reside with their wives in San Antonio, TX, where Alan is a computer programmer and Nico teaches theatre.
