District Required Diagnostics

 The Grades K–12 diagnostic testing assessments manifests our core belief that all students   can grow and achieve grade-level expectations. Use of these diagnostic assessment tools   help educators see where students are, set high—but achievable—expectations for growth,   and connect the right instructional tools to help them get there.

MSD's Foundational Skills screener in primary grades is a valuable tool for assessing and identifying students' phonics skills and reading abilities. Phonics is a fundamental aspect of early literacy that focuses on the relationship between sounds and letters and are important to know in primary grades for early intervention, individualized instruction, curriculum planning, progress monitoring and identification of possible learning disabilities. Students are screened in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

A Talented & Gifted (TAG) screener is an important tool for identifying students who demonstrate exceptional abilities and talents.  They play a crucial role in promoting equity, preventing underachievement and providing gifted students with the educational opportunities they need to thrive while contributing to a more inclusive and enriched learning environment for all students.  Students are screened in both 2nd and 5th grade for possible identification.

The English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) Screener is a tool for determining eligibility for English Language Development services for students entering grades Kindergarten through 12. The ELPA Screener is an assessment of a student’s English language proficiency in the required domains of Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The test questions are based on Oregon’s adopted English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards.
