About our Program

What is TAG?

TAG students are those who show exceptional ability compared to others. This means they perform at a much higher level in one or more areas. We also consider things like the opportunities the student has had to learn and any cultural differences that may impact their performance. Students who are identified as TAG need special teaching services to help them grow.
Instructional services for TAG students are provided through an in-class model where the classroom teacher is the primary service provider. Classroom teachers are responsible for assessing the student's level and rate of learning and providing appropriate instruction. This applies to all grade levels, and for all subject areas or courses. Regardless of the category of identification, all identified students receive instruction at their assessed level and rate of learning in all content areas.

Identification for Talented and Gifted (TAG) Services

The process for identifying Talented and Gifted (TAG) students starts with a nomination. Anyone who knows the student well can nominate them, including parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and even community members who have seen the student’s strengths.

Nomination Forms:

Parent/Guardian/Family Member/Community Member Nomination Form (Spanish)

Teacher/Administrator/School Employee Nomination Form

Student Self-Nomination Form (Spanish)

The Identification Process

Nomination is just the first step. The full process includes gathering different types of evidence to make sure a student qualifies for TAG. Our district uses research-based methods and tools to see if a student shows a pattern of high performance and achievement.
The steps include:

  • Collecting different kinds of evidence (both numbers and observations).
  • Reviewing the data as a team to make sure no single test or measure leaves anyone out.
  • Looking at the whole student by considering a variety of factors, including how their culture and learning opportunities might affect their abilities.

The final decision is made by a team that carefully looks at all the evidence to decide if the student is eligible for TAG services and support.
