Additional Security Features
The MSD has a multilayered security system in place to decrease the likelihood that a single point of failure may occur. While this is by no means a comprehensive list, here are some additional features that sites have in place:
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
All schools have Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in select locations. School staff can direct you to these locations.
Helpful hint- the PulsePoint and PulsePoint AED Apps are good tools to have that will allow you to quickly pinpoint the nearest location in the community as well as notify you of ongoing emergency incidents.
Alarms
All schools have alarm systems in place. Alarms are monitored 24/7.
Emergency Response Buttons (ERBs)
We have several hundred Emergency Response Buttons (ERBs) in place throughout the schools. These buttons are a direct line to law enforcement for life threatening events. These buttons do not negate the need to call or text 911. We also have FOBs that serve as mobile ERBs carried by select roving staff. Select landline phones also have the ability to initiate an ERB response.
Go Buckets
More than 1,000 Go Buckets have been placed into spaces throughout the district. These buckets have 30+ items in them to help staff navigate a multitude of emergency situations. Staff have been oriented on the contents of the bucket and trained on how to employ them. These buckets are in place to help staff buy time, have options and sustain themselves for the duration of an incident. An ERB activation initiates lockdown messaging that is transmitted over the school intercom system alerting staff and students to a threat on campus.
Securly
All district devices (computers, chrome books, etc.) used by students on and off site are monitored for inappropriate behavior and risk indicators. This is monitored 24/7 by a third party that notifies select district leadership and law enforcement when necessary.
Signage
All sites have signage in place along the perimeter fencing as well as directional signage near the front office. Speaking of signage - one small ask - PLEASE do not park in emergency lanes. We need to keep them clear for first responders to arrive unobstructed.
