School Resource Officers (SROs)
About Our SRO Program
The Medford School District (MSD) has a strong partnership with the Medford Police Department (MPD) and one of the longest standing School Resource Officer (SRO) programs in the nation at 30+ years!
The purpose of our SRO program is for officers to build positive relationships and trust with our students and staff. They live by the SRO triad of being teachers, mentors and law enforcement officers.
The day in the life of an SRO has them involved in the full spectrum of activities. You may see them teaching classes, talking with students and responding to incidents. After hours, you will also see them at athletic events, dances, plays and on campus for many other occasions. You won't find a more dedicated group of professionals committed to keeping our schools safe.
We have five SROs serving throughout the district. They are based out of our two high schools and three middle schools and provide coverage to all of our elementary schools.
All of our SROs are veteran officers with years of experience and extensive training.
SROs receive specialized training in:
- Implicit bias
- De-escalation
- Trauma-informed practices and investigations
- Adolescent development
- Crises intervention and active shooter situations
Our SROs are complemented by our School Marshals who provide a dedicated presence in our elementary schools.
We also have additional coverage in our more rural schools through the Jackson County Sherriff’s Office (JCSO) via their School Resource Deputy (SRD) and the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD). We work closely with all of our local law enforcement agencies to share information and respond to incidents effectively.
Our SROs are a tremendous resource for our students and staff, and we are proud to have them serving as part of the MSD team and contributing to the next generation of graduates! Give them a shout out next time you see them around campus!
