Standard Response Protocol (SRP) & Drills

During an incident, it is critically important that we utilize a standard framework for response.  The standard response protocol (SRP) is a simple tool that provides a common language for schools to use for emergency response commands.

The SRP commands include Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter

Here are the SRP commands in both English and Spanish with a breakdown of the actions that follow.

We know that training and preparation are the key to any effective emergency response.

As such, we work closely with our local first responders to maintain emergency response proficiency.  Our SRP training includes monthly fire drills and two earthquake drills and three security drills per year.

Parents/guardians can expect to receive communication from your student's school prior to security drills being conducted.

How realistic are the drills and are they trauma informed?

All students participate in drills to prepare them to respond well during a real world emergency.  Drills are not exercises.  They do not have the level of realism that some exercises entail.  Drills are an opportunity to train doing the basics well at age appropriate levels. So, yes.  They are trauma informed.

What about real world incidents?

Our security department and site leadership teams work closely with law enforcement in the event of a real world emergency that impacts our schools.

When an incident occurs, our communications team will be in contact with parents/guardians via phone, email and text.  The MSD website is the best location for incident updates.

What can I do to support?

- If you are a parent or guardian, please make sure your contact information stays updated at your student's school.

- Please do not come to the school during an incident. We understand this is a big ask; however, it is critical that we keep roads open so that our first responder teams can respond quickly and safely.

-  Please do not repost misinformation.  We will post what we know as soon as possible.  Misinformation can significantly complicate and prolong a response as well as cause unnecessary trauma.

- If you see something, say something.  Give us a call and afford us the opportunity to look into the concern.

- Please do talk to your students.  We need your partnership in this effort.  Check out the Helpful Resources.

The safety of our schools is always a top priority.  Know that we are working on it 24/7 365 days per year!
