Information About Athletics and Activities

August 28, 2020

The Medford School District is hitting the pause button on high school athletics Monday, August 31 through Friday, September 11.  No practices, conditioning or weight training will take place during this time.  Staff will be focusing their full energy on planning for a strong virtual start to the 2020-21 school year. During this time, our athletic directors will continue to monitor county COVID cases in addition to how we are aligning with the metrics outlined by the Oregon Department of Education for returning to in-person instruction. We will provide further communication regarding student activities and athletics prior to the week of September 14.  Click here to view the State of Oregon’s current guidance on athletics and activities. Southern Oregon Middle School Athletic Conference is looking at amending its season calendar for middle school athletics.  At this time, middle school athletics are postponed until a decision has been made by the conference.  Please visit your school’s website for further details.

The Oregon Schools Activities Association (OSAA) just released this guidance. The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) shifted its traditional Fall sports season contests to begin in March under a new 2020-21 school activities calendar. The OSAA’s new calendar provides for three distinct seasons from late December to late June with limited overlap between seasons so multiple sport athletes can still participate in their chosen activities.

Participation in activities from Aug. 31 - Dec. 27 has been left to the discretion of local school districts but must follow directives from the Governor’s Office, Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Oregon Department of Education (ODE). More information on what this means for the Medford School District coming soon.

Summer activities may continue at this time.
