Medford School District's Terri Dahl receives Achievement of Excellence Award

Medford School District’s Terri Dahl selected for OACOA Achievement of Excellence Award 

Terri Dahl, Supervisor of Federal Programs for Medford School District, has been awarded the 2019 OACOA Achievement of Excellence Award by the Oregon Association of Central Office Administrators (OACOA) and the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators (COSA). This award recognizes the service, professional growth, and impact on student lives of an extraordinary administrator each year.

Dahl has served as Supervisor of Federal Programs for Medford School District since 2011. In that time, she has been instrumental in efforts which have been recognized by the Oregon Department of Education with awards such as the Black and African American Student Success Grant and the 2017 Carmen West Award for Medford’s English Language Learners Program. Under her leadership, graduation rates for economically disadvantaged students, English Language Learners, and Migrant youth regularly outperform state averages.

“Terri’s motto is: ‘It’s for the kids.’ Every day, everything she does is for our students,” said OACOA President Sean Reinhart, Bend La-Pine Executive Director of Special Programs. “She stands out as an example; her compassion and devotion have led to the success of the most historically underserved students. We are proud to recognize her with the 2019 OACOA Achievement of Excellence Award.”

Dahl attends as many professional development opportunities as she can, constantly learning, not only to comply with regulations and better serve others, but in order to provide staff development to all the groups she serves. Terri Dahl has participated in workshops on implicit bias, poverty, adverse childhood experiences, Title IX, Migrant Education and more. She serves on the Board of Southern Oregon Health Equity (SO Health-E) working to increase access to health care for underserved members of the community. Programs implemented under Dahl’s leadership have been innovative and effective, changing real lives. She is currently seeking grants to cultivate more bilingual teachers by paying tuition for bilingual classified staff and students to enter the teaching profession.

“Terri Dahl works tirelessly with students at the heart of her efforts, particularly our most vulnerable students,” said Michelle Cummings, Chief Academic Officer at Medford School District, in her nomination of Dahl. “She advocates for equity for underrepresented groups, relentlessly pursuing funding for initiatives that are good for students and families. She is a gentle and honest administrator who is resourceful in solving problems and inspires staff to maintain high expectations and accomplish more than they thought possible.”

Dahl will be honored at the 2019 COSA Annual Conference in Seaside in June.
