MSD and OSEA Reach Tentative Agreement

May 13, 2017

The Medford School District Board of Education and the Oregon School Employees Association are pleased to announce that on May 12, 2017, bargaining teams reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for classified staff members.

“The board understands and appreciates the vital role that our OSEA team members contribute to the mission and vision of this district,” said school board member Larry Nicholson. “Both teams worked hard to show appreciation for staff while working within the district’s limited funds.”

The agreement is a two-year contract that includes a four-percent raise (cost of living increase) and maintains step increases for longevity. A $250 stipend would be provided to all members of the association if the contract is ratified by June 30, 2017.

Members would pay 10-percent of their medical benefits with premiums and deductibles aligned with the Oregon Educators Benefit Board (OEBB).

“We certainly value our OSEA support staff and this agreement will provide for excellent conditions for classroom support to support greater student achievement,” said Superintendent Brian Shumate. “I am pleased that both bargaining teams worked extensively and  collaboratively to reach this agreement.”

“This has been a collaborative and respectful process,” said Kristina Shellhorn, OSEA President. “Both teams worked hard, and we are pleased to have made some language changes that will benefit OSEA members and the district as a whole.”
