Heat Safety Reminder

Medford School District athletic directors always watch the weather closely to keep students safe in heat. The district follows Oregon State Athletic Association (OSAA) guidelines when determining when to cancel athletic events and practices. In times of extreme heat, athletic directors and coaches will hold practice early in the morning and/or late in the evening.

“The safety of our athletes comes before anything else,” said District Athletic Director Amy Tiger. “It’s so important to keep students out of extreme heat and well hydrated. Heat exhaustion is dangerous and has an effect on their long-term performance because their bodies can have a hard time recovering when put into extreme conditions.”
